I've just finished a project where we used solid works for a small (40ft) boat design. the hull geometry was designed first in rhino, then imported into solidworks 2005.. The computer-aided design ("cad") files and all associated content posted to this website are created, uploaded, managed and owned by third party users.. The transom is often a loft.i use the transom for trimming the hull surface and than use the deck and hull to trim the transomsurface.i found that working with (untrimmed) surfaces is a good way to model a boat in sw.after al the edges are filleted and the model is ok i thicken the hull to make it a solid..

The solidworks users i have met so far seem exceptionally professional and capable. so i just describe my way to design a chine boat. i am interested of your idea of combination of aluminum, divynicell and plywood. so i hope for some sharing of knowledge. little tricky to have a good control over all 3 sheets... I am a yacht designer and use maxsurf to creat a surface model of a hull. this is exported to solidworks via iges, and the surfaces stiched together to form a solid. i then set up a series of transverse planes where i want to create frames within the hull shape. i then make an assembly using the hull shape as a reference component..
